Community Services NGO training program. As a result of the changes to the child protection system following the implementation of Keep Them Safe, the NGO training program is focused on delivering child protection training to support NGOs. To increase the knowledge and skills of NGO staff, we are offering free training in child protection and case management for any organisation receiving funding from Community Services. There are four courses currently available see below. Also see how to enrol, course attendance policy and current training calendar. These courses are available exclusively to employees of programs and organisations funded directly by Community Services. They are free of charge. Identify respond to children young people at risk of harm. This is a two day fundamental child protection course for staff who work with families, children, or youth and wish to update their knowledge and learn about the new child protection system. It includes information on Keep Them Safe and new reporting thresholds, the responsibilities of NGOs, use of the Mandatory Reporting Guide and identifying risk of significant harm. Note Because this is a nationally recognised course, all participants must attend both full days. If this is a mandatory requirement for your role, please see FAQ sheet for more information. It provides participants with the theoretical perspectives about abuse and neglect that underpin best practice child protection intervention, and is integrated with knowledge about child development and indicators and effects of abuse, to enable participants to maximise positive outcomes for children, young people and carers. No prior knowledge or experience is required to take this course and it will give staff the skills, knowledge and values to provide case management support services within an agency or interagency context. This one day course is aimed at enhancing skills and processes that support case management when working with clients presenting with complex issues such as domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse issues, dual diagnosis and child protection issues. Whilst exploring case management in a context of working with complex issues, the focus of this course is on building practice through an exploration of solutions and strategies that support a best practice, client centred approach to our work.
